A Game Of Scones: A Monkey Queen short story!If you guessed this was the short story that would be premiering today, you were right! Here's Michiko and Beth's latest adventure, "A Game Of Scones"!
“Sometimes,” Michiko the Monkey Queen said after everything had been resolved, “trouble starts when and where you least expect it.”
For Michiko and her roommate and partner in adventure, Beth McGill, it started one Sunday morning while they were on their weekly walk along the trail to the Wonderland Diner and Tavern, for breakfast and conversation with their Emigre friends. The informal dress code at Wonderland was “determinedly casual”, so Michiko wore a yellow sweater and black jeans instead of her usual Monkey Queen outfit. Beth was dressed as she usually was, in blue jeans and her green army jacket, over a Widdershins t-shirt.
They were chatting idly as they walked when they saw the dwarven couple heading down a side trail towards them. "Good morning!" Michiko said.

The world was quiet, slowly waking up as the sun finally appeared over the horizon and revealed the environment of the healing world.
Old cities were crumbling away, being overtaken by nature while remnants of the failed domed cities remained, creating a reminder of the mistakes and failures of the past. This created a skeleton of the past that now housed wildlife and whoever lived outside of the still working domes.
Out of the decaying messy combination of nature and man-made remains resides a large, pristine dome that seemed to be brand new. It reflected the rays of the sun, shining in the dulled environment surrounding it like it was an oasis.

Two years. It has been two years since I first came to the magic school known as Vane that is housed on the planet called Zerron. Zerron, which is located within the same galaxy as Earth, or so I've been told, is mostly filled with sand. This is also something that was told to me. I haven't been outside of the school since I've arrived here. The year, at least back home, is 1997, but I guess that doesn't matter now. Time means squat on Zerron and most people here have their own measurement of time that I'm not accustomed to.
I was born on Earth, under the name of Jennibelle. A name given to me by my mother. I never liked that name to begin with. Most people knew me as JB anyway. One day I met a boy and my world and identity changed forever. Don't think this is a girl meets boy sort of story either, because it isn't.
